The dynamic interactions between epithelial and immune cells are crucial to maintaining skin homeostasis and resolving inflammation. Deregulated epithelial-immune communication triggers inflammatory skin diseases like Psoriasis, Atopic Dermatitis, and Hidradenitis Suppurativa. However, the underlying mechanisms of how innate and adaptive immune cells are educated by the epithelial cells to initiate and perpetuate inflammatory processes in the skin are yet to be completely unfolded. Here, I will discuss the crucial roles of NF-kappaB, cytokine, and stress signalling pathways, which are associated with several inflammatory diseases, in mediating these cross-talks to regulate skin inflammation.
