Ellie Maas Australasian Society for Dermatology Research Annual Scientific Meeting 2024

Ellie Maas

Growing up in regional Queensland, my childhood consisted of weekend sport, community productions and my spare time was spent at the local beach. My passion for science moved me to Brisbane where I completed my undergraduate degree in diagnostic pathology and my Honours year in molecular genetics. I then took a gap year and worked as a research assistant at The University of Queensland (IMB) with Professor Naomi Wray at the Human Studies Unit to gain professional knowledge and understanding of the research industry. After thorough deliberation and reflection throughout 2020, I decided to pursue a PhD with the Dermatology Research Centre to characterise the skin phenotype of Australians with mutations in high-penetrance melanoma genes POT1, POLE and BAP1. I believe higher learning encourages intellectual and emotional growth as you are acknowledging there is always more to learn; therefore, I'm excited to see where this research will take me.
